Day 1: Cancun – Puerto Escondido
Today you will be heading to the coast of Oaxaca, to Puerto Escondido. A surfer paradise with a couple amazing bays to enjoy some beach time. You can enjoy Zicatela beach, head to Bahía Principal, Playa Carrazalillo (our favorite beach in Puerto Escondido), Playa Puerto Angelito or try and discover the Mirador Las Tortugas.
Overnight based on room with breakfast
Day 2: Puerto Escondido – Chacahua
After relaxing on the beach or at the hotel yesterday, it is time to discover part of the local fauna and flora. You will be going to Chacahua lagoon to take a trip on the lagoon, spotting a variety of birds, crocodiles and other species. It is also a very nice place to stop for free time on the beach of Chacahua, with a lovely lunch of fresh caught fish and maybe a fresh coconut juice if you like that. After that, you will check in your cabaña where you will be staying the night. At night fall, you will be going on another trip on the lagune. This time, it has to be absolutely dark. You are going to search for the Bioluminescence. This is a wonder of nature when there is a special type of plankton in the lagoon that gives off lights to protect themselves from predators. Imagine swimming in the dark in the lagoon, with nothing but the lights of the plankton. We tested it ourselves and it is truly magical!

Day 3: Chacahua – Puerto Escondido
Time to say goodbye to Chacahua and head back to Puerto Escondido, where you can enjoy the rest of the day of free time. Maybe catch up on some shopping, or try and catch a wave while surfing. Or visit the rest of the bays you didn’t have time to visit last time.

Day 4: Puerto Escondido – Laguna Manialtepec – Puerto Escondido
Another trip to a lagoon today. Don’t worry, Manialtepec is different than Chacahua. We start of the trip in the afternoon, with a visit to turtle reservation site on Playa Bacocho. There you will get an explanation of how the preservation of the beach, and the turtle eggs is done. When they hatch, how to nurture them, etc. To top off the experience, you will be able to release some recently born turtles in the Pacific Ocean to get them going on their life journey. A nice, peaceful and lovely experience, leaving an impact on you for sure. Afterwards, you make your way to the Manialtepec lagoon. This lagoon boasts also a wide variety of birds, crocodiles, and other endemic species. The tour will be a sunset tour, so this will be a very romantic boat ride as you make your way to the Pacific Ocean to the place where the river and Ocean meet. If you are lucky, you can also catch a glimpse of the Bioluminescence as you did in Chacahua. After that you will head back to the hotel.

Day 5: Puerto Escondido – La Ventanilla – Mazunte – Zipolite – Huatulco
Today it is time to say goodbye to the charming Puerto Escondido and head to Huatulco via the Oaxacan coast line. First stop is eco reserve La Ventanilla, where you will board on a small boat that can only be operated with paddles. No motorized boats are allowed here. At La Ventanilla, you can spot crocodiles, lizards, and a lot of birds. It has a nursing center for monkeys, some deer, and crocodiles. Enjoy the laid back vibe.
After that, you will be going further to head to Mazunte. Here you will visit a shop with only organic products, such a mosquito repellent, sunscreen, soap, perfume, and other beauty products. It is run by locals, and always nice to support local initiatives, while caring for the environment. After that visit, you will head to a coffee shop, to do some coffee tasting. Coffee is an important product in Mexico, and especially in the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca. The final stop in Mazunte will be Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga. There you can find a lot of the turtle species that come to nest in Mexico. That is why turtles are very import for Mexico. At least 3 different ocean turtles come and lay eggs on beaches all over Mexico. This place serves as a sanctuary for those injured to heal and be released again, or as a haven for those that where injured so badly they can not be released in the wild again.
Next on the list is hippy town Zipolite, where you only have a quick stop. Hike shortly up to a viewpoint where you can see the 2 principal bays of Zipolite. You should know that Zipolite has a nude beach, so don’t be shocked or surprised to see some naked people running around at the beach.
Time for lunch! This will be served in Puerto Angel on the beach with a view of the opposed Playa Panteon. No need to say to seafood is the recommended choice in a coastal area.
After that, it is about 1h30 to reach Huatulco, where you can check in your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day. Huatulco has 2 parts, the beach part (Santa Cruz area) and downtown area (La Crucecita). I would recommend to head down to the downtown area for the best local restaurants, bars en handicraft shops.

Day 6: Huatulco
Today you will be heading out on the water. Huatulco is famous for its many bays. So, the ideal way to try and visit most of them, is by boat. And that is exactly what you will be doing today. You will visit 7 bays while enjoying a nice time on the boat. Please be advised that the Pacific can get rough, so if you nauseated quickly, please take your precautions. You will stop in one of the bays to go for a snorkeling adventure on the reef. Another bay where you will be going to, is going to be the place to take your lunch. So today is nothing more but, relax, enjoy, try to spot dolphins/sea turtles and have a nice time soaking up the sun and the sights. At night you can relax and maybe try some Tlayudas, which is a famous dish in Oaxaca.
